Joshua 13

1 Now Joshua was old, far on in years. And the Lord said to Joshua, “You are far on in years, and much land is left to be inherited. 2 And this is the land that is left: the borders of the Philistines, the Geshurites and the Canaanites;

3 from the uninhabited country that faces Egypt as far as the borders of Ekron, on the left of the Canaanites — this is reckoned to the five lordships of the Philistines: to the people of Gaza, and of Ashdod, and of Ashkelon, and of Gath, and of Ekron; and to the Hivites; 4 from Teman, and all the land of Canaan opposite Gaza; and the Sidonians as far as Aphek, as far as the borders of the Amorites; 5 and all the land of Gebal of the Philistines, and all Lebanon from the rising of the sun, from Gilgal under Mount Hermon as far as the entrance to Hamath; 6 every one who lives in the hill country from Lebanon as far as Misrephoth-maim, all the Sidonians — I myself will destroy them from before Israel. But hand the land out as a portion to Israel, just as I charged you.

7 And now divide this land as an inheritance among the nine tribes and the half tribe of Manasseh. From the Jordan to the Great Sea, westward, you are to give it; the Great Sea will be the border.” [a]

8 But to the two tribes and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to Reuben and to Gad, Moses had given land beyond the Jordan, toward the rising of the sun; Moses the servant of the Lord gave it to them — 9 from Aroer, which is on the edge of the brook of the Arnon, and the town that stands in the middle of the valley, and all the tableland from Medeba as far as Dibon; [b] 10 all the towns of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the borders of the children of Ammon; 11 and the region of Gilead, and the borders of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salecah;

12 all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei. He was left of the giants, and Moses struck him down and destroyed him. 13 But the children of Israel did not destroy the Geshurites and the Maacathites and the Canaanites; and the king of the Geshurites, and the Maacathites, have lived among the children of Israel to this day. 14 Only to the tribe of Levi no inheritance was given: the Lord God of Israel, he is their inheritance, as the Lord told them. And this is the division that Moses made among the children of Israel in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan, opposite Jericho.

15 And Moses gave to the tribe of Reuben according to their clans. 16 And their borders were from Aroer, which faces the valley of the Arnon, and the town that is in the valley of the Arnon, and all the tableland, 17 as far as Heshbon, and all the towns that are on the tableland, and Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and the house of Baal-meon, 18 and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 19 and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Serada, and Sior on Mount Emak, 20 and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,

21 and all the towns of the tableland, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, whom Moses struck down — him and the leaders of Midian: Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, chiefs alongside Sihon; and those who lived in the land. 22 And Balaam son of Beor, the diviner, they killed when the battle turned. [c] 23 And the borders of Reuben — the Jordan was the border. This is the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their clans: their towns and their farmsteads.

24 And Moses gave to the children of Gad according to their clans. 25 And their borders were Jazer, all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon as far as Aroer, which faces Rabbah, 26 and from Heshbon as far as Ramoth by Mizpah, and Betonim, and Mahanaim as far as the borders of Debir, 27 and in Emek: Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, and the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon; and the Jordan will be the border, as far as the side of the Sea of Chinnereth, beyond the Jordan, on the east. [d]

28 This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their clans: their towns and their farmsteads. [e]

29 And Moses gave to the half tribe of Manasseh according to their clans. 30 And their borders were from Mahanaim, and all the kingdom of Bashan, and all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the villages of Jair, which are in Bashan — sixty towns — 31 and half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, towns of Og's kingdom in Bashan. These were given to the children of Machir son of Manasseh, and to half of the children of Machir son of Manasseh, according to their clans.

32 These are the ones Moses gave an inheritance beyond the Jordan, in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan opposite Jericho, on the east.
