Deuteronomy 33

The Blessing of Moses

1 And this is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. 2 And he said:

2 The Lord has come from Sinai,
2 and has appeared to us from Seir,
2 and has hurried out of Mount Paran
2 with the ten thousands of Kadesh;
2 at his right hand were his messengers with him.
3 And he spared his people,
3 and all his holy ones are under your hands;
3 and they are under you, and he received of his words —
4 the law that Moses charged us with,
4 an inheritance for the assemblies of Jacob.
5 And he will be ruler with the beloved one,
5 when the rulers of the people are gathered together
5 with the tribes of Israel.

Reuben, Judah, Levi

6 Let Reuben live and not die,
6 and let him be many in number.
7 And this is the blessing of Judah:
7 Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah,
7 and come to his people.
7 His hands will fight for him,
7 and you will be a help against his enemies.

8 And to Levi he said:

8 Give Levi his showings,
8 and his truth to the holy man,
8 whom they tested in the testing,
8 whom they abused at the water of quarrelling —
9 who says to his father and his mother, I have not seen you,
9 and did not know his brothers,
9 and refused to know his own sons.
9 He kept your sayings and guarded your covenant.
10 They will declare your rules to Jacob
10 and your law to Israel.
10 They will set incense in the time of your anger,
10 always, on your altar.
11 Bless his strength, Lord,
11 and accept the works of his hands.
11 Break the backs of the enemies who have risen against him,
11 and let those who hate him not rise up.

Benjamin, Joseph

12 And to Benjamin he said:

12 The beloved of the Lord will live in safety,
12 and God overshadows him always,
12 and he rested between his shoulders.

13 And to Joseph he said:

13 His land is of the blessing of the Lord —
13 of the seasons of sky and dew,
13 and of the deeps of the wells below,
14 and of the fruits of the sun's turning in season,
14 and of the yield of the months,
15 from the top of the ancient mountains,
15 and from the top of the everlasting hills,
16 and of the fullness of the land in season.
16 And let the good pleasure of the one who lived in the bush
16 come on the head of Joseph,
16 and on the crown of the one who was honored above his brothers.
17 His splendor is like the firstborn of his bull;
17 his horns are the horns of a one-horned ox.
17 With them he will push the nations all at once,
17 even from the end of the earth.
17 These are the ten thousands of Ephraim,
17 and these are the thousands of Manasseh.

Zebulun, Gad, Dan, Naphtali, Asher

18 And to Zebulun he said:

18 Be glad, Zebulun, in your going out,
18 and Issachar in his tents.
19 They will destroy the nations completely,
19 and you will call men there,
19 and offer the sacrifice of righteousness there;
19 for the wealth of the sea will nurse you,
19 and so will the markets of those who live along the coast.

20 And to Gad he said:

20 Blessed is the one who makes Gad wide.
20 He rested like a lion,
20 having broken the arm and the ruler.
21 And he saw his first fruits,
21 that there the land of the rulers was divided,
21 gathered with the chiefs of the people.
21 The Lord did righteousness,
21 and his judgment with Israel.

22 And to Dan he said:

22 Dan is a lion's cub,
22 and he will leap out of Bashan.

23 And to Naphtali he said:

23 Naphtali has the fullness of good things;
23 and let him be filled with blessing from the Lord.
23 He will take the west and the south.

24 And to Asher he said:

24 Asher is blessed with children,
24 and he will be welcome to his brothers;
24 he will dip his foot in oil.
25 His sandal will be iron and bronze;
25 as your days are, so will your strength be.

There Is No One Like the God of the Beloved

26 There is no one like the God of the beloved.
26 The one who rides on heaven is your helper,
26 and the magnificent one of the sky.
27 And the rule of God will shelter you,
27 and under it the strength of the everlasting arms;
27 and he will throw the enemy out from in front of you,
27 saying: Be destroyed.
28 And Israel will live in safety, alone,
28 on the land of Jacob, with grain and wine;
28 and the sky over you will be misty with dew.
29 Blessed are you, Israel.
29 Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord?
29 Your helper will hold his shield over you,
29 and his sword is what you boast of;
29 and your enemies will lie to you,
29 and you will tread on their neck.
