Deuteronomy 16

The Passover

1 “Keep the month of the new grain, and sacrifice the Passover to the Lord your God — because in the month of the new grain you came out of Egypt by night. 2 And you are to sacrifice the Passover to the Lord your God, from the sheep and the cattle, in the place the Lord your God chooses to have his name called on it. 3 You are not to eat anything with yeast in it along with it. For seven days you are to eat bread without yeast with it — the bread of hardship, because you came out of the land of Egypt in a hurry — so that you may remember the day you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. 4 No yeast is to be seen anywhere in your territory for seven days, and none of the meat you sacrifice in the evening of the first day is to be left until morning. 5 You are not permitted to sacrifice the Passover in any of the towns the Lord your God gives you — 6 only in the place the Lord your God chooses to have his name called there. There you are to sacrifice the Passover in the evening, at sunset, at the hour you came out of Egypt. 7 And you are to boil it and roast it and eat it in the place the Lord your God chooses; and in the morning you are to turn back and go to your home. 8 Six days you are to eat bread without yeast, and on the seventh day there is a holiday, a feast to the Lord your God; you are not to do any work on it, except what anyone must do.

The Feast of Weeks

9 You are to count seven complete weeks for yourself; from when you first put the sickle to the grain you are to begin counting seven weeks. 10 And you are to keep the Feast of Weeks to the Lord your God, according to what your hand can give, in proportion to what the Lord your God gives you. 11 And you are to be glad before the Lord your God — you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite, and the newcomer, and the fatherless, and the widow who live among you — in whatever place the Lord your God chooses to have his name called there. 12 And you are to remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and you are to keep and do these commands.

The Feast of Tents

13 You are to keep the Feast of Tents for yourself for seven days, when you gather in your produce from your threshing floor and your winepress. 14 And you are to be glad at your feast — you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, and the Levite, and the newcomer, and the fatherless, and the widow who are in your towns. 15 Seven days you are to keep a feast to the Lord your God in the place the Lord your God chooses for himself; and when the Lord your God blesses you in all your fruit and in every work of your hands, then you are to be glad. 16 Three times in the year every male of yours is to appear before the Lord your God in the place the Lord chooses: at the Feast of Bread Without Yeast, and at the Feast of Weeks, and at the Feast of Tents. And no one is to appear before the Lord your God empty-handed — 17 each one according to what he can give, according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.

Judges at Your Gates

18 You are to appoint judges and officers for yourself in your towns, which the Lord your God is giving you, throughout your tribes; and they are to judge the people with right judgment. 19 They are not to twist a judgment, or show favor to anyone, or take a gift — for gifts blind the eyes of the wise and twist the words of the righteous. 20 Justly you are to pursue justice, so that you may live and go in and take the land the Lord your God is giving you. 21 You are not to plant a sacred grove for yourself — any tree at all — beside the altar of the Lord your God, which you are to make for yourself. 22 And you are not to set up a pillar for yourself, which the Lord your God hates.”
