Numbers 12
Miriam and Aaron Speak Against Moses
1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman Moses had taken — for he had taken an Ethiopian woman. 2 And they said, 2 “Has the Lord spoken only to Moses? Has he not spoken to us as well?” 2 And the Lord heard it. 3 And the man Moses was very gentle, more than all the people on the face of the earth. 4 And at once the Lord said to Moses and Miriam and Aaron, 4 “Come out, the three of you, to the tent of witness.” 4 And the three of them came out to the tent of witness. 5 And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the door of the tent of witness, and Aaron and Miriam were called, and the two of them came forward. 6 And he said to them, 6 “Listen to my words. If there is a prophet of the Lord among you, I make myself known to him in a vision, and I speak to him in sleep. 7 It is not so with my servant Moses. He is faithful in all my house. 8 I speak to him mouth to mouth, plainly and not in riddles, and he has seen the glory of the Lord. So why were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” 9 And the great anger of the Lord was on them, and he went away.
God, I Beg You, Heal Her
10 And the cloud went away from the tent — and there was Miriam, leprous, white as snow. And Aaron turned to Miriam, and there she was, leprous. 11 And Aaron said to Moses, 11 “I beg you, my lord, do not hold this sin against us; we did not know what we were doing when we sinned. 12 Do not let her be like something dead, like a stillborn child coming out of its mother's womb with half its flesh already eaten away.” 13 And Moses cried out to the Lord. He said, 13 “God, I beg you, heal her.” 14 And the Lord said to Moses, 14 “If her father had only spat in her face, would she not be ashamed for seven days? Let her be shut away outside the camp seven days, and after that she may come back in.” 15 And Miriam was shut away outside the camp seven days; and the people did not move on until Miriam was made clean. 16 And afterward the people set out from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.
