Numbers 7
The Wagons and the Oxen
1 On the day Moses finished setting up the tent, he anointed it and made it holy, and all its equipment, and the altar and all its equipment; he anointed them and made them holy. 2 And the leaders of Israel brought gifts — twelve leaders of their fathers' houses. These were the heads of the tribes, the men who had stood over the counting. 3 They brought their gift before the Lord: six covered wagons and twelve oxen, a wagon from every two leaders and an ox from each one; and they brought them in front of the tent. 4 And the Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 5 “Take them from the men, and let them be used for the work of the services of the tent of witness; and give them to the Levites, to each one according to his service.” 6 So Moses took the wagons and the oxen and gave them to the Levites. 7 He gave two wagons and four oxen to the sons of Gershon, according to their services, 8 and four wagons and eight oxen to the sons of Merari, according to their services, under the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest. 9 But to the sons of Kohath he gave none, because the service of the holy things belongs to them: they carry them on their shoulders.
