Numbers 2
Each Man Under His Own Standard
1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, 2 “The children of Israel are to camp each man next to his own, by division, by standards, by their fathers' houses. The children of Israel are to camp facing the tent of witness, around it on every side.
East: the Camp of Judah
3 Those camping first, on the east, are the division of the camp of Judah with their army; and the leader of the sons of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab. 4 His army, as counted, was 74,600. 5 Those camping next to him are the tribe of Issachar, and the leader of the sons of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar. 6 His army, as counted, was 54,400. 7 Those camping next are the tribe of Zebulun, and the leader of the sons of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon. 8 His army, as counted, was 57,400. 9 All those counted in the camp of Judah were 186,400, with their armies. They are to move out first.
South: the Camp of Reuben
10 This is the division of the camp of Reuben; their armies are to be on the south, and the leader of the sons of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur. 11 His army, as counted, was 46,500. 12 Those camping next to him are the tribe of Simeon, and the leader of the sons of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai. 13 His army, as counted, was 59,300. 14 Those camping next to them are the tribe of Gad, and the leader of the sons of Gad is Eliasaph son of Reuel. 15 His army, as counted, was 45,650. 16 All those counted in the camp of Reuben were 151,450, with their armies. They are to move out second.
17 Then the tent of witness is to be carried forward, with the camp of the Levites in the middle of the camps. They are to move out in the order they camp in, each man next to the one before him, under his own command.
West: the Camp of Ephraim
18 The place of the camp of Ephraim is on the west with their armies, and the leader of the sons of Ephraim is Elishama son of Ammihud. 19 His army, as counted, was 40,500. 20 Those camping next are the tribe of Manasseh, and the leader of the sons of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. 21 His army, as counted, was 32,200. 22 Those camping next are the tribe of Benjamin, and the leader of the sons of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni. 23 His army, as counted, was 35,400. 24 All those counted in the camp of Ephraim were 108,100, with their armies. They are to move out third.
North: the Camp of Dan
25 The division of the camp of Dan is to be on the north with their armies, and the leader of the sons of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. 26 His army, as counted, was 62,700. 27 Those camping next to him are the tribe of Asher, and the leader of the sons of Asher is Pagiel son of Ochran. 28 His army, as counted, was 41,500. 29 Those camping next are the tribe of Naphtali, and the leader of the sons of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan. 30 His army, as counted, was 53,400. 31 All those counted in the camp of Dan were 157,600. They are to move out last, by their divisions.”
32 This is the count of the children of Israel by their fathers' houses. The whole count of the camps, with their armies, was 603,550. 33 But the Levites were not counted along with them, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 34 And the children of Israel did everything the Lord had ordered Moses. That is how they camped, by their divisions, and that is how they moved out, each man next to the one before him, by their clans, by their fathers' houses.
