Leviticus 13

A Mark on the Skin

1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron. He said, 2 “If a man has on the skin of his body a scar that shows plainly, and there is on the skin of his body a mark of leprosy, he is to be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons the priests. 3 The priest is to look at the mark on the skin of his body, and if the hair in the mark has turned white and the mark looks lower than the skin of the body, it is a mark of leprosy; the priest is to look at it and declare him unclean. 4 But if the bright spot on the skin of his body is white and it does not look lower than the skin, and its hair has not turned white, and it is dull, then the priest is to shut the mark away for seven days. 5 The priest is to look at the mark on the seventh day, and if the mark stays as it was in front of him and has not spread in the skin, then the priest is to shut him away a second seven days. 6 The priest is to look at him a second time on the seventh day, and if the mark is dull and has not spread in the skin, the priest is to declare him clean; it is only a marking. He is to wash his clothes and he will be clean. 7 But if the marking changes and spreads in the skin after the priest has seen him in order to declare him clean, he is to show himself to the priest a second time; 8 and the priest is to look at him, and if the marking has spread in the skin, the priest is to declare him unclean. It is leprosy.

Old Leprosy, and Living Flesh

9 If a mark of leprosy comes on a man, he is to come to the priest; 10 and the priest is to look, and if there is a white scar on the skin, and it has turned the hair white, and there is some of the healthy living flesh within the scar, 11 it is an old leprosy in the skin of the body. The priest is to declare him unclean and shut him away, because he is unclean. 12 But if the leprosy breaks out and breaks out over the skin, and the leprosy covers all the skin of the man with the mark from head to foot, everywhere the priest looks, 13 then the priest is to look, and if the leprosy has covered all the skin of his body, the priest is to declare him clean of the mark, because it has all turned white. He is clean. 14 But on the day living flesh appears on him he is to be counted unclean. 15 The priest is to look at the healthy flesh, and the healthy flesh makes him unclean; it is unclean, it is leprosy. 16 But if the healthy flesh is restored and turns white, then he is to come to the priest, 17 and the priest is to look at him, and if the mark has turned white, the priest is to declare the mark clean. He is clean.

In an Old Boil, and in a Burn

18 And if a boil comes up in the skin of a man’s body and heals, 19 and there comes in the place of the boil a white scar, or a bright patch turning white or turning red, it is to be shown to the priest; 20 and the priest is to look, and if it looks lower than the skin and its hair has turned white, the priest is to declare him unclean, because it is leprosy that has broken out in the boil. 21 But if the priest looks and there is no white hair in it, and it is not lower than the skin of the body, and it is dull, the priest is to shut him away seven days. 22 If it spreads across the skin, the priest is to declare him unclean. It is a mark of leprosy that has broken out in the boil. 23 But if the bright patch stays in its place and does not spread, it is the scar of the boil, and the priest is to declare him clean.

24 And if there is a burn from fire on the skin of a man’s body, and on the healed place of the burn there is a bright shining patch, white going to red, or very white, 25 then the priest is to look at him, and if the hair in the bright patch has turned white and it looks lower than the skin, it is leprosy that has broken out in the burn; and the priest is to declare him unclean. It is a mark of leprosy. 26 But if the priest looks and there is no white hair in the bright patch, and it is not lower than the skin, and it is dull, the priest is to shut him away seven days. 27 The priest is to look at him on the seventh day, and if it has spread and spread in the skin, the priest is to declare him unclean. It is a mark of leprosy that has broken out in the sore. 28 But if the bright patch stays in its place and has not spread in the skin, and it is dull, it is the scar of the burn, and the priest is to declare him clean; for it is the mark the burn left.

On the Head or in the Beard

29 And if a man or a woman has a mark of leprosy on the head or in the beard, 30 the priest is to look at the mark, and if it looks sunk deeper than the skin, and there is thin yellowish hair in it, the priest is to declare him unclean. It is a scaly patch — leprosy of the head or leprosy of the beard. 31 And if the priest sees the mark of the scaly patch and it does not look sunk deeper than the skin, and there is no yellowish hair in it, then the priest is to shut the mark of the scaly patch away seven days. 32 The priest is to look at the mark on the seventh day, and if the scaly patch has not spread, and there is no yellowish hair in it, and the scaly patch does not look hollowed out below the skin, 33 then the skin is to be shaved, but the scaly patch is not to be shaved; and the priest is to shut the scaly patch away a second seven days. 34 The priest is to look at the scaly patch on the seventh day, and if the scaly patch has not spread in the skin after the man has been shaved, and it does not look hollowed out below the skin, then the priest is to declare him clean; and he is to wash his clothes and he will be clean. 35 But if the scaly patch spreads and spreads in the skin after he has been declared clean, 36 then the priest is to look, and if the scaly patch has spread in the skin, the priest is not to go looking for the yellow hair; the man is unclean. 37 But if the scaly patch stays as it was, in its place, and dark hair has grown up in it, the scaly patch has healed. He is clean, and the priest is to declare him clean.

What Is Not Leprosy

38 And if a man or a woman has on the skin of the body bright shining patches that are whitish, 39 the priest is to look, and if there are bright shining whitish patches on the skin of the body, it is a white rash. He is clean; it has broken out on the skin of his body, and he is clean. 40 And if a man’s head loses its hair, he is only bald. He is clean. 41 And if his head loses its hair at the front, he is bald at the forehead. He is clean. 42 But if on his bald head or on his bald forehead there is a white or reddish mark, it is leprosy on his bald head or on his bald forehead; 43 and the priest is to look at him, and if the mark looks white going to red on his bald head or on his bald forehead, like the look of leprosy on the skin of the body, 44 the man has leprosy. The priest is certainly to declare him unclean; his mark is on his head.

Living Outside the Camp

45 And the person who has leprosy, who has the mark — his clothes are to hang loose and his head is to be uncovered, and he is to put a covering around his mouth, and he is to be called unclean. 46 All the days the mark is on him he is unclean and will be unclean. He is to live apart; his dwelling place will be outside the camp.

Leprosy in Cloth and Leather

47 And if a mark of leprosy comes on a garment — on a woolen garment or a linen garment, 48 or in the warp or in the weft, or in the linen or in the woolens, or on leather or on anything worked out of leather — 49 and the mark is greenish or reddish, on the leather or on the garment, or in the warp or in the weft, or on any article worked out of leather, it is a mark of leprosy, and it is to be shown to the priest. 50 The priest is to look at the mark and shut the marked thing away seven days. 51 The priest is to look at the mark on the seventh day, and if the mark has spread in the garment, or in the warp or in the weft, or in the leather, in anything leather is worked into, the mark is a settled leprosy. It is unclean. 52 He is to burn the garment, or the warp or the weft, whether woolen or linen, or any article of leather that the mark is in, because it is a settled leprosy. It is to be burned up with fire.

53 But if the priest looks and the mark has not spread in the garment, or in the warp or in the weft, or in any article of leather, 54 then the priest is to give the order and the thing the mark is on is to be washed, and the priest is to shut the mark away a second seven days. 55 The priest is to look at the mark after it has been washed, and if the mark has not changed its look, and the mark has not spread, it is unclean. It is to be burned up with fire; it is fixed in the garment, in the warp or in the weft. 56 And if the priest looks and the mark is dull after the washing, he is to tear it out of the garment, or out of the leather, or out of the warp or out of the weft. 57 And if it shows up again in the garment, or in the warp or in the weft, or in any article of leather, it is a leprosy breaking out; whatever the mark is in is to be burned up with fire. 58 And the garment, or the warp, or the weft, or any article of leather, that is washed and the mark leaves it, is to be washed a second time, and it will be clean. 59 This is the law of a mark of leprosy on a woolen or linen garment, or on a warp, or on a weft, or on any article of leather, for declaring it clean or unclean.”
