Leviticus 12
After a Child Is Born
1 The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel and say to them: A woman who conceives and gives birth to a boy will be unclean seven days; she will be unclean as in the days of the separation of her monthly period. 3 And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin is to be circumcised. 4 And for thirty-three days she is to stay in the blood of her uncleanness. She is not to touch anything holy and is not to come into the sanctuary, until the days of her cleansing are completed. 5 But if she gives birth to a girl, she will be unclean twice seven days, as in her monthly period, and for sixty-six days she is to stay in the blood of her uncleanness.
6 And when the days of her cleansing are completed, for a son or for a daughter, she is to bring a year-old lamb without blemish for a whole burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove for the sin, to the door of the tent of witness, to the priest. 7 He is to bring it before the Lord, and the priest is to make atonement for her and make her clean from the flow of her blood. This is the law for a woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. 8 And if she cannot afford a lamb, she is to take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a whole burnt offering and one for the sin; and the priest is to make atonement for her, and she will be clean.”
