Leviticus 9

The Eighth Day

1 On the eighth day Moses called Aaron and his sons and the council of elders of Israel, 2 and Moses said to Aaron, 2 “Take for yourself a calf from the herd for an offering for sin, and a ram for a whole burnt offering, both without blemish, and bring them before the Lord. 3 And speak to the council of elders of Israel: Take one male goat from the goats for an offering for sin, and a calf and a year-old lamb for a whole burnt offering, all without blemish, 4 and a young bull and a ram for a sacrifice of well-being before the Lord, and fine flour kneaded with oil — for today the Lord will appear among you.” 5 They took what Moses had commanded and brought it in front of the tent of witness, and the whole gathering came near and stood before the Lord. 6 Moses said, 6 “This is the thing the Lord has said. Do it, and the glory of the Lord will appear among you.” 7 And Moses said to Aaron, 7 “Come near to the altar and make your offering for sin and your whole burnt offering, and make atonement for yourself and for your household; and make the gifts of the people and make atonement for them, just as the Lord commanded Moses.”

Aaron's First Offerings

8 Aaron came near to the altar and killed the calf of his offering for sin. 9 Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him, and he dipped his finger in the blood and put it on the horns of the altar, and he poured out the blood at the base of the altar. 10 The fat and the kidneys and the lobe of the liver of the offering for sin he brought up on the altar, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 11 The flesh and the hide he burned up with fire outside the camp.

12 He killed the whole burnt offering, and Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him, and he poured it all around the altar. 13 They brought him the whole burnt offering piece by piece, and the head with them, and he put them on the altar. 14 He washed the belly and the feet with water and put them on the whole burnt offering on the altar.

15 Then they brought forward the gift of the people. He took the goat of the people’s offering for sin and killed it, as he had done with the first. 16 He brought forward the whole burnt offering and did with it as is fitting. 17 He brought forward the sacrifice and filled his hands from it and put it on the altar, apart from the morning whole burnt offering. 18 He killed the young bull and the ram of the people’s sacrifice of well-being, and Aaron’s sons brought the blood to him, and he poured it all around the altar. 19 And the fat from the young bull and from the ram — the loin, and the fat that covers the belly, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and the lobe on the liver — 20 he laid the fat pieces on the breasts, and they brought the fat up on the altar. 21 And the breast and the right shoulder Aaron set apart as a portion before the Lord, just as the Lord had ordered Moses.

Fire from the Lord

22 Aaron lifted his hands over the people and blessed them, and he came down, having made the offering for sin and the whole burnt offerings and the offerings of well-being. 23 Moses and Aaron went into the tent of witness, and when they came out they blessed all the people; and the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 And fire came out from the Lord and ate up what was on the altar — the whole burnt offerings and the fat pieces. And all the people saw it, and they were astonished, and they fell on their faces.
