Leviticus 8
Aaron Is Washed and Dressed
1 The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 2 “Take Aaron and his sons, and his garments, and the anointing oil, and the young bull for the offering for sin, and the two rams, and the basket of bread without yeast, 3 and call the whole gathering together at the door of the tent of witness.” 4 Moses did as the Lord ordered him, and he called the gathering together at the door of the tent of witness. 5 Moses said to the gathering, 5 “This is the thing the Lord has commanded to be done.”
6 Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them with water. 7 He put the tunic on him and tied the sash around him, and clothed him with the inner robe, and put the shoulder-piece on him, and belted it to him according to the way the shoulder-piece was made, and drew it tight around him. 8 He set the oracle-piece on it, and on the oracle-piece he put the Manifestation and the Truth. 9 He set the turban on his head, and on the turban, at the front, he set the golden plate, the holy thing set apart, as the Lord had ordered Moses.
10 Moses took some of the anointing oil 11 and sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, and he anointed the altar and made it holy, and all its equipment, and the basin and its stand, and made them holy; and he anointed the tent and everything in it and made it holy. 12 Moses poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, and anointed him and made him holy. 13 Moses brought Aaron’s sons forward and clothed them with tunics and tied sashes around them and set turbans on them, just as the Lord had ordered Moses.
The Bull and the First Ram
14 Moses brought forward the young bull for the offering for sin, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the bull of the offering for sin. 15 He killed it, and Moses took some of the blood and put it on the horns of the altar all around with his finger, and made the altar clean; and he poured out the blood at the base of the altar and made it holy, to make atonement on it. 16 Moses took all the fat that was on the entrails, and the lobe on the liver, and both kidneys and the fat that was on them, and Moses brought them up on the altar. 17 But the bull, and its hide, and its flesh, and its dung, he burned up with fire outside the camp, as the Lord had ordered Moses.
18 Moses brought forward the ram for a whole burnt offering, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 19 Moses killed the ram, and Moses poured the blood all around the altar. 20 He cut the ram up limb by limb, and Moses brought up the head and the limbs and the fat. 21 He washed the belly and the feet with water, and Moses brought the whole ram up on the altar. It was a whole burnt offering, a pleasing smell; it was an altar offering to the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
The Ram of the Filling of Hands
22 Moses brought forward the second ram, the ram of the filling of hands, and Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram. 23 He killed it, and Moses took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the tip of his right hand, and on the tip of his right foot. 24 Moses brought Aaron’s sons forward, and Moses put some of the blood on the lobes of their right ears, and on the tips of their right hands, and on the tips of their right feet; and Moses poured the blood all around the altar. 25 He took the fat, and the loin, and the fat that is on the belly, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and the right shoulder. 26 And out of the basket of the filling of hands that stood before the Lord he took one loaf without yeast, and one loaf made with oil, and one thin cake, and laid them on the fat and the right shoulder, 27 and he laid it all on Aaron’s hands and on the hands of his sons, and brought them up as a portion set apart before the Lord. 28 Moses took them from their hands, and Moses brought them up on the altar, on top of the whole burnt offering of the filling of hands. It is a pleasing smell; it is an altar offering to the Lord. 29 Moses took the breast and set it apart as what is set before the Lord, from the ram of the filling of hands, and it became Moses' own share, as the Lord had commanded Moses. 30 Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood that was on the altar and sprinkled it on Aaron and his garments, and on his sons and his sons' garments with him; and he made Aaron and his garments holy, and his sons and his sons' garments with him.
Seven Days at the Door
31 Moses said to Aaron and his sons, 31 “Boil the meat in the court of the tent of witness, in a holy place, and eat it there, along with the loaves in the basket of the filling of hands, as I was ordered: the Lord said, Aaron and his sons are to eat them. 32 What is left of the meat and the loaves you are to burn up with fire. 33 You are not to go out from the door of the tent of witness for seven days, until the day is completed — the day your hands are filled; for seven days he will be filling your hands, 34 just as he did on this day. The Lord commanded that it be done, so that atonement may be made for you. 35 You are to stay at the door of the tent of witness seven days, day and night. You are to keep the Lord’s charge, so that you do not die; for this is what the Lord God commanded me.” 36 And Aaron and his sons did all the words the Lord had ordered through Moses.
