Leviticus 7

The Law of the Offering for Wrongdoing

1 “And this is the law of the ram of the offering for wrongdoing. It is most holy. 2 In the place where the whole burnt offering is killed, they are to kill the ram of the offering for wrongdoing before the Lord, and he is to pour the blood all around the base of the altar. 3 He is to bring all its fat from it — the loin, and all the fat that covers the entrails, and all the fat that is on the entrails, 4 and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, on the thighs, and the lobe on the liver — he is to take them away together with the kidneys — 5 and the priest is to bring them up on the altar as an altar offering to the Lord. It is for wrongdoing. 6 Every male among the priests is to eat it. They are to eat it in a holy place. It is most holy. 7 As the offering for sin is, so is the offering for wrongdoing. There is one law for them both: it belongs to the priest who makes atonement with it.

8 And the priest who brings up a man’s whole burnt offering — the hide of the whole burnt offering he brings belongs to him. 9 And every sacrifice made in an oven, and every one made on a hearth or on a griddle, belongs to the priest who brings it. It is his. 10 And every sacrifice worked with oil, and every one not worked with oil, belongs to all of Aaron’s sons, an equal share to each.

The Law of the Sacrifice of Well-Being

11 This is the law of the sacrifice of well-being, which they are to bring to the Lord. 12 If he brings it for praise, then with the sacrifice of praise he is to bring loaves of fine flour worked with oil, thin cakes without yeast brushed with oil, and fine flour kneaded with oil. 13 Along with loaves made with yeast he is to bring his gifts, with the sacrifice of praise for well-being. 14 He is to bring one of all his gifts as a portion set apart for the Lord. It belongs to the priest who pours out the blood of the sacrifice of well-being. 15 The meat of the sacrifice of praise for well-being belongs to him, and it is to be eaten on the day it is given. They are not to leave any of it until morning.

16 But if it is a vow, or if he sacrifices his gift of his own choice, it is to be eaten on the day he brings his sacrifice, and on the next day as well. 17 Whatever meat of the sacrifice is left over until the third day is to be burned up with fire. 18 If he does eat any of the meat on the third day, it will not be accepted for the man who brought it; it will not be counted for him. It is a defiled thing, and the soul who eats any of it will bear the sin. 19 Meat that has touched anything unclean is not to be eaten; it is to be burned up with fire. Anyone who is clean may eat the meat. 20 But the soul who eats meat from the sacrifice of well-being, which belongs to the Lord, while his uncleanness is on him — that soul will perish from among his people. 21 And a soul who touches anything unclean — the uncleanness of a person, or unclean four-footed animals, or any unclean detestable thing — and then eats meat from the sacrifice of well-being, which belongs to the Lord, that soul will perish from among his people.”

No Fat and No Blood

22 The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 23 “Speak to the children of Israel and say: You are not to eat any fat of oxen or sheep or goats. 24 The fat of animals that died on their own, or that were torn by wild animals, may be used for any work, but it is not to be eaten as food. 25 Anyone who eats the fat of the cattle from which an altar offering is brought to the Lord — that soul will perish from among his people. 26 You are not to eat any blood, in any place you live, whether of birds or of cattle. 27 Every soul who eats blood — that soul will perish from among his people.”

The Priests' Portion Forever

28 The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 29 “Speak to the children of Israel and say: Whoever brings a sacrifice of well-being to the Lord is to bring his gift to the Lord out of the sacrifice of well-being. 30 His own hands are to bring the altar offerings to the Lord: the fat that is on the breast and the lobe of the liver, he is to bring these, so as to set them as a gift before the Lord. 31 The priest is to bring the fat up on the altar, and the breast will belong to Aaron and his sons. 32 And you are to give the right shoulder to the priest as a portion set apart out of your sacrifices of well-being. 33 The one among Aaron’s sons who brings the blood of the sacrifice of well-being and the fat — the right shoulder is his as his share. 34 For the breast that is set before me and the shoulder set apart I have taken from the children of Israel out of your sacrifices of well-being, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as a lasting practice from the children of Israel.

35 This is the anointing portion of Aaron and the anointing portion of his sons out of the altar offerings of the Lord, from the day he brought them forward to serve as priests to the Lord — 36 as the Lord commanded that it be given them, from the children of Israel, on the day he anointed them. This is a lasting practice through their generations. 37 This is the law of the whole burnt offerings, of the sacrifice, of the offering for sin, of the offering for wrongdoing, of the filling of hands, and of the sacrifice of well-being, 38 as the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day he commanded the children of Israel to bring their gifts before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai.”
