Leviticus
Leviticus 1
The Lord Calls from the Tent
1 The Lord called Moses again and spoke to him out of the tent of witness. He said, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel and say to them: When any one of you brings gifts to the Lord, bring your gifts from the cattle — from the oxen and from the sheep.
From the Herd
3 If his gift is a whole burnt offering, he is to bring a male without blemish from the oxen. He is to bring it to the door of the tent of witness, and it will be accepted for him before the Lord. 4 He is to lay his hand on the head of the altar offering, and it will be accepted for him, to make atonement for him. 5 They are to kill the young bull before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests are to bring the blood and pour the blood all around the altar that stands at the doors of the tent of witness.
6 Then they are to skin the whole burnt offering and cut it up limb by limb. 7 Aaron’s sons the priests are to put fire on the altar and pile wood on the fire, 8 and Aaron’s sons the priests are to pile up the cut pieces, and the head, and the fat, on the wood that is on the fire on the altar. 9 The inner parts and the feet they are to wash with water, and the priests are to put it all on the altar. It is an altar offering, a sacrifice, a pleasing smell to the Lord.
From the Flock
10 If his gift to the Lord is from the sheep — from the lambs or from the kids — for a whole burnt offering, he is to bring a male without blemish, and he is to lay his hand on its head. 11 They are to kill it at the side of the altar, toward the north, before the Lord, and Aaron’s sons the priests are to pour its blood all around the altar. 12 They are to cut it up limb by limb, with its head and its fat, and the priests are to pile them on the wood that is on the fire on the altar. 13 The inner parts and the feet they are to wash with water, and the priest is to bring it all and put it on the altar. It is an altar offering, a sacrifice, a pleasing smell to the Lord.
From the Birds
14 If the altar offering you bring to the Lord is a gift from the birds, his gift is to be brought from the turtledoves or from the pigeons. 15 The priest is to bring it to the altar and pinch off its head, and the priest is to put it on the altar and drain out its blood at the base of the altar. 16 He is to take away the crop with its feathers and throw it down beside the altar, toward the east, at the place of the ashes. 17 He is to break it open by the wings without dividing it, and the priest is to put it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is an altar offering, a sacrifice, a pleasing smell to the Lord.”
