Exodus
Exodus 40
“Set Up the Tent on the First Day of the First Month”
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses: 2 “On the first day of the first month, at the new moon, you are to set up the tent of witness. 3 And you are to put the ark of the witness in it, and screen the ark with the veil. 4 And you are to bring in the table and set out what is set out on it, and bring in the lampstand and set its lamps on it. 5 And you are to place the golden altar, for burning incense, in front of the ark; and hang the covering screen at the door of the tent of witness. 6 And the altar of offerings you are to place beside the doors of the tent of witness, 8 and set up the tent all around, and make everything that belongs to it holy, all around. 9 And you are to take the anointing oil and anoint the tent and everything in it, and make it holy, with all its tools — and it will be holy. 10 And you are to anoint the altar of offerings and all its tools, and make the altar holy — and the altar will be most holy. 12 And you are to bring Aaron and his sons to the doors of the tent of witness and wash them with water, 13 and clothe Aaron in the holy garments, and anoint him, and make him holy — and he will serve me as priest. 14 And you are to bring his sons near and clothe them in tunics, 15 and anoint them as you anointed their father — and they will serve me as priests. And their anointing will be theirs for a priesthood forever, through their generations.” 16 And Moses did everything the Lord had commanded him — so he did.
The Tent Raised
17 And in the first month of the second year after their going out of Egypt, at the new moon, the tent was set up. 18 And Moses set up the tent: he set the tops in place, and slid in the bars, and raised the posts, 19 and stretched the curtains over the tent, and laid the covering of the tent over it from above — as the Lord had commanded Moses. 20 And he took the witness pieces and put them into the ark, and set the poles in place under the ark, 21 and brought the ark into the tent, and hung the covering veil and screened the ark of the witness — the very way the Lord had commanded Moses. 22 And he set the table in the tent of witness, on the north side of the tent of witness, outside the veil of the tent, 23 and set out on it the loaves of the setting-out before the Lord — the very way the Lord had commanded Moses. 24 And he set the lampstand in the tent of witness, on the south side of the tent, 25 and set its lamps on it before the Lord — the very way the Lord had commanded Moses. 26 And he set the golden altar in the tent of witness, in front of the veil, 27 and burned on it the blended incense — just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 29 And the altar of offerings he set beside the doors of the tent, 33 and he set up the court around the tent and the altar. And Moses finished all the works.
The Glory Fills the Tent
34 And the cloud covered the tent of witness, and the tent was filled with the glory of the Lord. 35 And Moses was not able to go into the tent of witness, because the cloud overshadowed it, and the tent was filled with the glory of the Lord. 36 And whenever the cloud went up from the tent, the children of Israel would break camp, with all that they carried; 37 and if the cloud did not go up, they did not break camp, until the day the cloud went up. 38 For the cloud was over the tent by day, and fire was over it by night, in the sight of all Israel, through all their journeys.
