Exodus
Exodus 29
The Filling of Their Hands
1 “And this is what you are to do for them, to make them holy so that they may serve me as priests. Take one young calf from the herd and two rams without blemish, 2 and bread without yeast kneaded with oil, and wafers without yeast brushed with oil — make them of fine wheat flour — 3 and put them in one basket, and bring them near in the basket, with the calf and the two rams. 4 And you are to bring Aaron and his sons to the doors of the tent of witness, and wash them with water. 5 And you are to take the garments and clothe Aaron your brother — the full-length robe, and the shoulder-piece, and the oracle-piece — and fasten the oracle-piece to the shoulder-piece. 6 And you are to set the turban on his head, and set the plate of Holiness on the turban. 7 And you are to take the anointing oil and pour it on his head, and anoint him. 8 And you are to bring his sons near and clothe them in tunics, 9 and tie the sashes around them and wrap the turbans on them; and the priesthood will be theirs before me forever. So you are to fill the hands of Aaron and the hands of his sons.
The Calf and the Two Rams
10 And you are to bring the calf to the doors of the tent of witness, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on the calf’s head, before the Lord, by the doors of the tent of witness. 11 And you are to kill the calf before the Lord, by the doors of the tent of witness, 12 and take some of the calf’s blood and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour out all the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 13 And you are to take all the fat that covers the belly, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys with the fat on them, and lay them on the altar. 14 But the calf’s meat and its hide and its dung you are to burn up with fire outside the camp — for it is a sin offering. 15 And you are to take the first ram, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on the ram’s head; 16 and you are to kill it, and take the blood and pour it against the altar all around. 17 And you are to cut the ram into its pieces, and wash the inner parts and the legs with water, and lay them on the pieces with the head, 18 and bring the whole ram up onto the altar — a whole burnt offering to the Lord, for a pleasing smell; it is a sacrifice to the Lord. 19 And you are to take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons are to lay their hands on the ram’s head; 20 and you are to kill it, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, and on the tip of his right hand, and on the tip of his right foot, and on the lobes of his sons’ right ears, and on the tips of their right hands, and on the tips of their right feet. 21 And you are to take some of the blood from the altar, and some of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments, and on his sons and on his sons’ garments with him; and he will be holy, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him. And the ram’s blood you are to pour against the altar all around. 22 And you are to take from the ram its fat — the fat covering the belly, and the lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys with the fat on them — and the right shoulder, for this is a filling of hands; 23 and one loaf made with oil, and one wafer, from the basket of the breads without yeast that is set before the Lord; 24 and you are to lay it all on the hands of Aaron and on the hands of his sons, and set them apart as a portion set apart before the Lord. 25 Then you are to take it from their hands and burn it on the altar of whole burnt offering, for a pleasing smell before the Lord; it is an offering to the Lord. 26 And you are to take the breast from the ram of the filling of hands — the one that is for Aaron — and set it apart as a portion set apart before the Lord, and it will be your share. 27 And you are to make holy the breast that was set apart, and the shoulder of the set-apart portion, which was lifted off from the ram of the filling of hands, from what was Aaron’s and his sons’; 28 and it will belong to Aaron and his sons as a lasting practice, from the children of Israel — for this is a portion set apart. And it will be a portion set apart from the children of Israel, out of their sacrifices of well-being: a portion set apart for the Lord.
Seven Days
29 And the holy garments that are Aaron’s will belong to his sons after him — to be anointed in them, and to have their hands filled in them. 30 For seven days the priest from among his sons who takes his place — who goes into the tent of witness to do the work of the service in the holy places — is to wear them. 31 And you are to take the ram of the filling of hands and boil its meat in a holy place, 32 and Aaron and his sons are to eat the ram’s meat, and the loaves in the basket, beside the doors of the tent of witness. 33 They are to eat the things by which they were made holy — for the filling of their hands, to make them holy. And no outsider may eat of them, for they are holy. 34 And if any of the meat of the filling sacrifice, or any of the bread, is left until morning, you are to burn what is left with fire; it is not to be eaten, for it is a holy thing. 35 And this is what you are to do for Aaron and for his sons, exactly as I have commanded you: for seven days you are to fill their hands. 36 And on the day of the cleansing you are to offer the calf of the sin offering, and cleanse the altar as you make it holy on it, and anoint it, to make it holy. 37 For seven days you are to cleanse the altar and make it holy, and the altar will be most holy; everything that touches the altar will be holy.
Morning and Evening, Always
38 And this is what you are to offer on the altar: two year-old lambs without blemish, every day, on the altar without fail — an offering that never stops. 39 The one lamb you are to offer in the morning, and the second lamb you are to offer toward evening, 40 with two quarts of fine flour mixed with a quart of beaten oil, and a drink offering of a quart of wine, for the one lamb. 41 And the second lamb you are to offer toward evening — with the same sacrifice as the morning’s, and the same drink offering — for a pleasing smell, an offering to the Lord: 42 a sacrifice that never stops, through your generations, at the doors of the tent of witness before the Lord — where I will make myself known to you, to speak to you there. 43 And there I will give my orders to the children of Israel, and I will be made holy in my glory. 44 And I will make the tent of witness holy, and the altar; and Aaron and his sons I will make holy, to serve me as priests. 45 And I will be called on among the children of Israel, and I will be their God; 46 and they will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt — to be called on by them, and to be their God.
