Exodus 27

The Altar of Whole Burnt Offering

1 “And you are to make the altar of wood that does not rot: seven and a half feet long and seven and a half feet wide — the altar is to be square — and four and a half feet high. 2 And you are to make the horns on its four corners; the horns are to be of one piece with it. And you are to cover them with bronze. 3 And you are to make a rim for the altar, and its lid, and its bowls, and its meat-hooks, and its fire-pan; all its tools you are to make of bronze. 4 And you are to make a grate for it of bronze net-work, and make four bronze rings for the grate, on its four sides, 5 and set them under the grate of the altar, below; and the grate is to reach halfway up the altar. 6 And you are to make carrying poles for the altar of wood that does not rot, and sheathe them in bronze, 7 and put the poles through the rings, so that the poles lie along the two sides of the altar for carrying it. 8 You are to make it hollow, of boards. As it was shown to you on the mountain, so you are to make it.

The Court

9 And you are to make a court for the tent. On the south side, the hangings of the court are to be of fine twisted linen, a hundred and fifty feet long on that one side, 10 with their twenty posts and their twenty bronze bases; the hooks of the posts and their bands are to be silver. 11 The same on the east side: hangings a hundred and fifty feet long, with their twenty posts and their twenty bronze bases, and the hooks and the bands of the posts, and their bases, overlaid with silver. 12 And across the width of the court, on the side toward the sea, hangings of seventy-five feet, with their ten posts and their ten bases. 13 And the width of the court toward the south: hangings of seventy-five feet, with their ten posts and their ten bases. 14 And hangings of twenty-two and a half feet on the one side of the gate, with their three posts and their three bases, 15 and on the second side, hangings of twenty-two and a half feet, with their three posts and their three bases. 16 And for the gate of the court, a hanging of thirty feet, of blue and purple and twisted scarlet and fine twisted linen, with the needleworker’s embroidery — with their four posts and their four bases. 17 All the posts around the court are to be banded with silver, their tops silver and their bases bronze. 18 The length of the court is a hundred and fifty feet on each side, and the width seventy-five feet at each end, and the height seven and a half feet — of fine twisted linen, with their bronze bases. 19 And all the equipment, and all the tools, and the pegs of the court, are bronze.

Oil for the Lamp That Never Goes Out

20 And you — order the children of Israel to bring you pure beaten olive oil, free of dregs, for the light, so that a lamp may burn continually. 21 In the tent of witness, outside the veil that hangs before the covenant, Aaron and his sons are to keep it burning from evening until morning before the Lord. It is a lasting practice through your generations, kept by the children of Israel.”
