Exodus
Exodus 26
The Curtains and the Covers
1 “And you are to make the tent of ten curtains of fine twisted linen, with blue and purple and twisted scarlet; you are to work cherubim into them, a weaver’s work. 2 The length of one curtain is forty-two feet, and the width of one curtain six feet; every curtain is to have the same measure. 3 Five of the curtains are to be joined one to another, and the other five curtains joined one to another. 4 And you are to make loops of blue on the edge of the one curtain, at the outer end where the set is joined; and do the same on the edge of the outer curtain of the second set, at the join. 5 Fifty loops you are to make for the one curtain, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain of the second set, at the join — the loops facing each other, matching one to one. 6 And you are to make fifty gold clasps, and join the curtains one to another with the clasps — and the tent will be one. 7 And you are to make covers of woven goats’ hair to go over the tent; eleven covers you are to make. 8 The length of one cover is to be forty-five feet, and the width of one cover six feet; the eleven covers are to have the same measure. 9 And you are to join five of the covers by themselves and six of the covers by themselves, and fold the sixth cover double at the front of the tent. 10 And you are to make fifty loops on the edge of the cover at the middle join, and fifty loops on the edge of the cover that joins the second set. 11 And you are to make fifty bronze clasps, and fasten the clasps into the loops and join the covers — and it will be one. 12 And you are to let the surplus of the tent’s covers hang down: the leftover half-cover is to hang over the back of the tent. 13 And the eighteen inches on this side and eighteen inches on that side, left over from the length of the covers, are to hang over the sides of the tent on either side, to cover it. 14 And you are to make a covering for the tent of rams’ skins dyed red, and coverings of blue skins above that.
The Frame
15 And you are to make the posts of the tent of wood that does not rot. 16 You are to make each post fifteen feet long and twenty-seven inches wide, 17 with two pegs on each post, set opposite each other. You are to do the same for all the posts of the tent. 18 And you are to make the posts for the tent: twenty posts for the north side, 19 and forty silver bases for the twenty posts — two bases for each post, one at each of its two ends. 20 And for the second side, the south side, twenty posts, 21 with their forty silver bases — two bases for each post, one at each of its two ends. 22 And at the back of the tent, on the side toward the sea, you are to make six posts, 23 and two posts you are to make at the corners of the tent, at the back. 24 They are to be even from the bottom up, and matched the same at the tops for one joining. You are to do the same with both — let them stand at the two corners. 25 So there will be eight posts, and their silver bases, sixteen — two bases for each post, one at each of its two ends. 26 And you are to make bars of wood that does not rot: five for the posts on the one side of the tent, 27 and five bars for the posts on the second side of the tent, and five bars for the posts at the back side of the tent, toward the sea; 28 and the middle bar, set halfway up the posts, is to run through from the one side to the other. 29 And you are to overlay the posts with gold, and make the rings that hold the bars of gold, and overlay the bars with gold. 30 And you are to raise the tent by the plan shown to you on the mountain.
The Veil
31 And you are to make a veil of blue and purple and twisted scarlet and spun linen; you are to make it woven work, with cherubim. 32 And you are to hang it on four posts of wood that does not rot, overlaid with gold, with gold tops, on their four silver bases. 33 And you are to hang the veil on the posts, and bring the ark of the witness in there, behind the veil; and the veil will mark off for you the holy place from the most holy place. 34 And you are to screen the ark of the witness with the veil, in the most holy place. 35 And you are to set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand opposite the table on the south side of the tent; and the table you are to set on the north side of the tent. 36 And you are to make a screen of blue and purple and twisted scarlet and twisted linen, an embroiderer’s work. 37 And you are to make five posts for the veil and overlay them with gold — their tops of gold — and cast five bronze bases for them.”
