What We Have Heard and Seen

1 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we looked upon and our hands touched, concerning the word of life — 2 and the life was made known, and we have seen and testify and report to you the everlasting life, which was with the Father and was made known to us — 3 what we have seen and heard we report to you also, so that you also may have sharing with us; and our sharing is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write, so that our joy may be made full.

God Is Light

5 And this is the message that we have heard from him and report to you: that God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have sharing with him and walk in the darkness, we are lying and are not doing the truth; 7 but if we walk in the light, as he himself is in the light, we have sharing with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we lead ourselves astray and the truth is not in us. 9 If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and righteous, so that he forgives us the sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.
