2 Peter
2 Peter 1
Simeon Peter to Those Who Obtained the Same Faith
1 Simeon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a faith of equal honor with ours, in the righteousness of our God and the one who rescues, Jesus Christ: 2 may favor and peace be multiplied to you in the full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Supply These Things in Your Faith
3 Since his divine power has given us everything for life and devoutness, through the full knowledge of the one who called us by his own glory and excellence, 4 through which he has given us the precious and greatest promises, so that through these you might become sharers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through desire — 5 for this very reason, bringing in all diligence, supply in your faith excellence, and in your excellence knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge self-control, and in your self-control endurance, and in your endurance devoutness, 7 and in your devoutness brotherly love, and in your brotherly love love.
8 For if these things belong to you and are increasing, they make you neither idle nor unfruitful toward the full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; 9 for the one in whom these are not present is blind, screwing up his eyes, having taken forgetfulness of the cleansing of his old sins. 10 So all the more, brothers, be diligent to make your calling and choice firm; for doing these things you will never stumble. 11 For in this way the entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and the one who rescues, Jesus Christ, will be richly supplied to you.
As Long as I Am in This Tent
12 So I intend always to remind you of these things, even though you know them and are made firm in the truth that is present with you. 13 And I count it right, for as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by a reminder, 14 knowing that the putting off of my tent is soon, just as our Lord Jesus Christ also made it clear to me. 15 And I will be diligent that at any time after my going out you may be able to call these things to mind.
We Were Eyewitnesses
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had become eyewitnesses of that one’s greatness. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when such a voice as this was carried to him by the Majestic Glory:
“This is my Son, my beloved, in whom I have taken delight” —
18 and we ourselves heard this voice carried out of heaven, being with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word made more firm, and you do well to pay attention to it as to a lamp shining in a murky place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first: that no prophecy of Scripture comes of its own unloosing. 21 For prophecy was never carried by a person’s will, but people carried by a holy spirit spoke from God.
