1 Peter 5

Shepherd the Flock of God

1 So I urge the elders among you — I, a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a sharer in the glory that is about to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, watching over it not under compulsion but willingly, according to God; not for shameful gain but eagerly; 3 not as lording it over those allotted to you, but becoming patterns for the flock. 4 And when the chief shepherd is made plain, you will receive back the unfading crown of glory.

Tie On Humility

5 In the same way, younger ones, be subject to elders. And all of you, tie on humility toward one another, because “God opposes the proud but gives favor to the humble.” 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that he may lift you up in due time, 7 having cast all your concern on him, because it matters to him about you.

8 Be sober, stay awake. Your opponent at law, the Accuser, walks about like a roaring lion, looking for someone to swallow down. 9 Stand against him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kinds of sufferings are being completed in your brotherhood in the world. 10 And the God of all favor, who called you into his everlasting glory in Christ, when you have suffered a little, will himself put you in order, make you firm, give you strength, set you on a foundation. 11 To him is the might forever and ever. Amen.

Greetings from Babylon

12 Through Silvanus, the faithful brother — as I reckon him — I have written to you briefly, urging you and testifying that this is the true favor of God. Stand in it. 13 She who is chosen along with you, in Babylon, greets you, and so does Mark my son. 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
