Hebrews 1

God Has Spoken in a Son

1 In many parts and in many ways God spoke long ago to the fathers through the prophets; 2 at the last of these days he spoke to us in a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also made the ages; 3 who, being the radiance of his glory and the exact impress of his substance, and carrying all things by the word of his power, when he had made a cleansing of sins through himself, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in the heights, 4 having become as much better than the messengers as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

To Which of the Messengers?

5 For to which of the messengers did he ever say, “You are my son. Today I have fathered you”? And again, “I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to me”? 6 But when he again brings the firstborn into the inhabited world, he says, “And let all the messengers of God bow down to him.” 7 And of the messengers he says, “The one who makes his messengers spirits, and his servants a flame of fire.” 8 But of the Son:

“Your throne, God, lasts forever and ever,
and the scepter of uprightness is a scepter of your kingdom.
9 You loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.
Therefore God, your God, anointed you with the oil of rejoicing beyond your companions.”

10 And:

“In the beginning, Lord, you founded the earth,
and the heavens are the works of your hands.
11 They will perish, but you remain;
and all of them will grow old like clothing,
12 and like a cloak you will roll them up — like clothing — and they will be changed.
But you are the same, and your years will not fail.”

Sit at My Right Hand

13 But to which of the messengers has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? 14 Are they not all serving spirits, sent out for service because of those who are going to inherit rescue?
