1 Timothy
1 Timothy 6
Slaves and Masters
1 As many as are slaves under a yoke are to count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be blasphemed. 2 And those who have faithful masters are not to look down on them because they are brothers; rather let them serve as slaves all the more, because those who take hold of the good service are faithful and beloved. Teach these things, and urge them.
Devoutness Is Not a Means of Gain
3 If anyone teaches a different teaching and does not come over to healthy words — those of our Lord Jesus Christ — and to the teaching that is according to devoutness, 4 he is swollen with conceit, understanding nothing, but sick over questionings and battles over words, out of which come envy, strife, blasphemies, evil suspicions, 5 constant frictions among people whose minds are ruined and who have been robbed of the truth, supposing that devoutness is a means of gain. 6 But devoutness with self-sufficiency is a great means of gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, because neither can we carry anything out; 8 but having food and covering, with these we will be content. 9 And those who want to be rich fall into testing and a snare and many senseless and harmful desires, which sink people into ruin and destruction. 10 For a root of all the evils is the love of money, which some have reached for and have been led astray from the faith, and have run themselves through with many pains.
Fight the Good Fight of the Faith
11 But you, man of God, flee these things; and pursue righteousness, devoutness, faith, love, endurance, a gentle temper. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the everlasting life to which you were called, and about which you acknowledged the good acknowledgment before many witnesses. 13 I charge you before God, who gives life to all things, and Christ Jesus, who testified the good acknowledgment before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the command unstained, beyond reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Charge Those Who Are Rich
17 Charge those who are rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to have set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with all things for enjoyment; 18 to do good, to be rich in good works, to be ready to give a share, willing to hold things in common, 19 storing up for themselves a good foundation for what is coming, so that they may take hold of the life that is really life.
20 Timothy, guard the deposit, turning away from the common empty utterances and the oppositions of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have laid claim to, and have missed concerning the faith. Favor be with you.
