1 Timothy 2

Pray for All People, and for Kings

1 So I urge, first of all, that pleas, prayers, petitions and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high position, so that we may lead a calm and quiet life in all devoutness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable before God the one who rescues us, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come into full knowledge of truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and human beings, the human being Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom in exchange for all — the testimony at its own seasons. 7 For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle — I am speaking truth, I am not lying — a teacher of nations in faith and truth.

Lifting Holy Hands

8 So I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and disputing. 9 In the same way also, that women adorn themselves in orderly dress, with modesty and sound sense — not with braided hair and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing, 10 but with what is fitting for women who lay claim to reverence for God: through good works.

Let a Woman Learn in Quietness

11 Let a woman learn in quietness, in all submission. 12 But I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to exercise authority over a man, but to be in quietness. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been thoroughly deceived, came to be in overstepping. 15 But she will be saved through the childbearing — if they remain in faith and love and holiness with sound sense.
