Colossians 3

Seek the Things Above

1 If, then, you were raised together with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Think the things above, not the things on the earth, 3 for you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ is made plain — your life — then you also will be made plain with him in glory.

Put Off, Put On

5 So put to death the limbs that are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is idol-service, 6 because of which the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. 7 You also once walked in these things, when you were living in them. 8 But now you also put them all away: wrath, fury, badness, blasphemy, shameful speech out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, having stripped off the old man with his practices 10 and having put on the new, which is being made new again into full knowledge according to the image of the one who created him, 11 where there is no Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, foreign-speaking, Scythian, slave, free — but Christ is all things, and in all.

12 So put on, as chosen ones of God, holy and beloved: inward parts of compassion, kindness, lowliness of mind, gentleness, patience, 13 bearing with one another and freely forgiving each other, if anyone has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord also freely forgave you, so also you. 14 And over all these, love, which is the bond of completeness. 15 And let the peace of Christ act as umpire in your hearts, into which you were also called in one body. And become thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and warning one another with psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing with favor in your hearts to God. 17 And everything, whatever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

In the Household

18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is well pleasing in the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, so that they may not lose heart.

22 Slaves, obey in everything those who are your masters according to flesh — not with eye-service, as pleasers of men, but in simplicity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it from the soul, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive back the repayment of the inheritance. Serve the Lord Christ. 25 For the one who does wrong will be paid back for the wrong he did, and there is no partiality.
