1 Corinthians
1 Corinthians 6
Going to Law Before the Unrighteous
1 Does any of you, having a matter against the other, dare to go to law before the unrighteous, and not before the holy ones? 2 Or do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if the world is judged among you, are you unworthy of the smallest courts? 3 Do you not know that we will judge messengers — let alone matters of this life? 4 So if you have courts for matters of this life, do you seat those who are treated as nothing in the gathering?
5 I say this to your shame. Is there really no one wise among you who will be able to decide between his brother — 6 but brother goes to law with brother, and this before the faithless? 7 So then it is already altogether a defeat for you that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? 8 But you yourselves do wrong and defraud — and this to brothers.
And Such Were Some of You
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not go astray: neither the sexually immoral, nor idol-servers, nor adulterers, nor soft men, nor men who lie with males, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy — no drunkards, no abusive people, no plunderers — will inherit God’s kingdom. 11 And these things some of you were. But you washed yourselves clean, but you were made holy, but you were set right, in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God.
Everything Is Permitted Me
12 Everything is permitted me — but not everything is an advantage. Everything is permitted me — but I will not be brought under the authority of anything. 13 Foods for the belly, and the belly for foods — and God will do away with both it and them. But the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body; 14 and God both raised the Lord and will raise us up through his power.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are limbs of Christ? Shall I then take the limbs of the Christ and make them the limbs of a prostitute? May it never be! 16 Or do you not know that the one who holds fast to a prostitute is one body? For, he says, “the two become one flesh.” 17 But the one who holds fast to the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin a person may commit is outside the body, but the one who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? And you are not your own, 20 for you were bought at a price. So glorify God in your body.
