1 Corinthians 5

Sexual Immorality Among You

1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you — and such sexual immorality as is not even among the nations: that someone has his father’s wife. 2 And you are puffed up! And did you not rather mourn, so that the one who did this deed would be taken out of your midst?

3 For I myself, absent in the body but present in the spirit, have already judged, as though present, the one who has done this thing in this way — 4 in the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are gathered together, and my spirit with you, with the power of our Lord Jesus — 5 to hand over such a man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

A Little Leaven

6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole of the dough? 7 Clean out the old leaven, so that you may be new dough, as you are without yeast. For our Passover has been sacrificed too — Christ. 8 So let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of badness and wickedness, but with the bread without yeast of sincerity and truth.

The Letter I Wrote You

9 I wrote to you in the letter not to mix with the sexually immoral — 10 not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and plunderers, or idol-servers, since then you would have to go out of the world.

11 But now I wrote to you not to mix with anyone who is named a brother if he is sexually immoral, or greedy, or an idol-server, or abusive, or a drunkard, or a plunderer — with such a man not even to eat. 12 For what is it to me to judge those outside? Is it not those inside whom you judge, 13 while those outside God judges? Burn the evil out from among yourselves.
