1 Corinthians
1 Corinthians 3
Still People of Flesh
1 And I, brothers, was not able to speak to you as to spiritual people but as to people of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not food, for you were not yet able. But neither are you able even now, 3 for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly and walking in a human way? 4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not human beings?
I Planted, Apollos Watered
5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you came to trust, and to each as the Lord gave. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God was making it grow; 7 so neither the one who plants is anything nor the one who waters, but God who makes it grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters are one, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor, 9 for we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
Building on the Foundation
10 According to the favor of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But let each one look at how he builds on it; 11 for no one is able to lay another foundation than the one lying there, which is Jesus Christ. 12 And if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become plain; for the day will make it clear, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will prove what sort each one’s work is.
14 If anyone’s work remains, the work he built on it, he will receive a reward; 15 if anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
You Are God’s Sanctuary
16 Do you not know that you are God’s sanctuary and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone ruins the sanctuary of God, God will ruin him; for the sanctuary of God is holy, and that is what you are.
18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish, so that he may become wise; 19 for the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written:
20 and again:
21 So let no one boast in people; for all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come — all are yours, 23 and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
