Romans 5
Peace with God
1 So then, having been set right out of faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have also had our access by faith into this favor in which we stand; and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only that, but we also boast in afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, 4 and endurance what is proved, and what is proved hope. 5 And hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
While We Were Still Sinners
6 For while we were still weak, Christ at the right time died for the ungodly. 7 For hardly will anyone die for a righteous man; though for the good man someone might perhaps even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love toward us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more, then, having now been set right by his blood, we will be saved through him from the wrath. 10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved by his life. 11 And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
Adam and the One to Come
12 Because of this: just as through one man sin entered into the world, and through sin death, and so death went through to all men, because all sinned — 13 for until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not charged where there is no law; 14 yet death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam’s overstepping — who is a pattern of the one to come.
15 But the gift of favor is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the favor of God and the gift in the favor of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many. 16 And what was given is not like what came through the one who sinned. For the judgment came out of one, into condemnation; but the gift of favor came out of many transgressions, into a righteous verdict. 17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more will those who receive the overflow of favor and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.
18 So then: as through one transgression it came to all men, into condemnation, so also through one righteous act it came to all men, into a setting right of life. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one the many will be made righteous.
Where Sin Increased
20 And law slipped in alongside, so that the transgression might increase; but where sin increased, favor overflowed beyond it, 21 so that just as sin reigned in death, so also favor might reign through righteousness into everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
