Mark 16

1 And when the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might come and anoint him. [a] 2 And very early on the first day of the week they come to the tomb, when the sun had risen. 3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us out of the door of the tomb?” 4 And looking up, they see that the stone has been rolled away — for it was very large.

5 And going into the tomb they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. 6 But he says to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, the one who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. [b] 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” 8 And going out they fled from the tomb, for trembling and bewilderment had hold of them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. [And they briefly reported all that had been commanded to those around Peter. And after this Jesus himself sent out through them, from east even to west, the holy and imperishable proclamation of everlasting rescue. Amen.] [c]

9 [Now when he had risen early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had thrown out seven demons. [e] 10 She went and reported it to those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept; 11 and when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe it. 12 And after this he was made known in another form to two of them as they walked, going into the country; 13 and they went off and reported it to the rest, and they did not believe them either. 14 Later he was made known to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table, and he reproached their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen him raised.

15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to all creation. 16 The one who trusts and is immersed will be saved, but the one who does not trust will be condemned. [f] 17 And these signs will follow along with those who trust: in my name they will throw out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes, and if they drink anything deadly it will not harm them at all; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will be well.” [g]

19 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. † 20 And they went out and proclaimed everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the signs that followed along with it.] [h]
