Zechariah 6

Eighth Vision: Four Chariots

1 Then I looked up again and saw four chariots coming out between two mountains — mountains of bronze. 2 The first chariot had red horses, and the second had black horses. 3 The third had white horses, and the fourth had dappled, ash-gray horses. 4 I asked the messenger who spoke with me, “My lord, what are these?”

5 He answered, “These are the four winds of heaven, going out to stand before the Lord of the whole earth. 6 The chariot with black horses went toward the land of the north. The white horses went after them, and the dappled horses went toward the south.” 7 The ash-gray horses went out and sought to range over the earth. He said, “Go, range over the earth,” and they did. 8 Then he cried out to me, “Look — those going to the land of the north have quieted my anger there.”

A Crown for Jeshua

9 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 10 “Take what comes from the exile — from its chief men, from its useful men, and from those who have understood it. On that day enter the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah, who has come from Babylon. 11 Take silver and gold, make crowns, and put them on the head of Jeshua son of Jozadak, the great priest. 12 Then say to him: ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: Look at the man whose name is Rising. He will rise from his place and build the Lord’s house.

13 He will receive power and sit as ruler on his throne. A priest will be at his right hand, and peaceful counsel will be between them both. 14 The crown will be for those who endured patiently, for the useful men of the exile, for those who understood, for the favor of Zephaniah’s son, and for a psalm in the Lord’s house. 15 Those who are far away will come and build the Lord’s house. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. This will happen if you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God.”
