Fifth Vision: The Lampstand and the Olive Trees
1 The messenger who spoke with me returned and woke me as someone is awakened from sleep. 2 He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a lampstand made entirely of gold, with a bowl on top, seven lamps, and seven oil funnels for the lamps. 3 Two olive trees stand above it, one to the right of the bowl and one to the left.” 4 I asked the messenger who spoke with me, “My lord, what are these?”
5 He answered me, “Do you not know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.”
Not by Power but by My Spirit
6 He answered me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by great power or by strength, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. 7 Who are you, great mountain before Zerubbabel, that you should prosper? I will bring out the stone of inheritance, its favor equal to favor.” 8 Then the word of the Lord came to me:
9 “Zerubbabel’s hands laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you. 10 Who has despised these small days? They will rejoice when they see the tin stone in Zerubbabel’s hand. These seven are the eyes of the Lord that look over the whole earth.
The Two Sons of Oil
11 I asked him, “What are these two olive trees to the right and left of the lampstand?” 12 I asked again, “What are the two olive branches beside the two golden pipes that pour into and draw up the golden oil funnels?”
13 He asked me, “Do you not know what these are?” I answered, “No, my lord.” 14 He said, “These are the two sons of oil who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.”
