“The Lord has spoken from Zion
and raised his voice from Jerusalem.
The shepherds’ pastures mourn,
and the top of Carmel has dried up.”
Judgment on the Nations
3 This is what the Lord says:
“For three acts of ungodliness by Damascus,
and for four, I will not turn away from it,
because they sawed apart the pregnant women of Gilead
with iron saws.
4 I will send fire on the house of Hazael,
and it will consume the foundations of the son of Hadad.
5 I will shatter the bars of Damascus.
I will destroy those living in the plain of On
and cut off a tribe from the people of Harran.
The renowned people of Syria will be led captive,”
says the Lord.
6 This is what the Lord says:
“For three acts of ungodliness by Gaza,
and for four, I will not turn away from them,
because they captured Solomon’s captives
and shut them up in Edom.
7 I will send fire on the walls of Gaza,
and it will consume its foundations.
8 I will destroy those living in Ashdod.
A tribe will be removed from Ashkelon,
and I will bring my hand against Ekron.
Those who remain of the Philistines will perish,”
says the Lord.
9 This is what the Lord says:
“For three acts of ungodliness by Tyre,
and for four, I will not turn away from it,
because they shut Solomon’s captives up in Edom
and did not remember the covenant between brothers.
10 I will send fire on the walls of Tyre,
and it will consume its foundations.”
11 This is what the Lord says:
“For three acts of ungodliness by Edom,
and for four, I will not turn away from them,
because they pursued their brother with the sword,
destroyed the womb on the earth,
seized his horror as a testimony,
and kept his fury for strife.
12 I will send fire on Teman,
and it will consume the foundations of her walls.”
13 This is what the Lord says:
“For three acts of ungodliness by the people of Ammon,
and for four, I will not turn away from them,
because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead
to widen their borders.
14 I will kindle fire on the walls of Rabbah,
and it will consume its foundations
with shouting on the day of war.
The city will be shaken on the day of its end.
15 Its kings will go into captivity,
together with their priests and rulers,”
says the Lord.
