Ezekiel 48

The Land and the City Gates

1 “These are the tribes’ names. At the northern end, the border runs along the route descending toward the entrance of Hamath, by the courtyard of Ainan and the northern border of Damascus beside Hamath’s courtyard. Dan will have one portion extending from the east to the sea.” 2 “Beside Dan’s border, Asher will have one portion extending from east to west.” 3 “Beside Asher’s border, Naphtali will have one portion extending from east to west.” 4 “Beside Naphtali’s border, Manasseh will have one portion extending from east to west.” 5 “Beside Manasseh’s border, Ephraim will have one portion extending from east to west.” 6 “Beside Ephraim’s border, Reuben will have one portion extending from east to west.” 7 “Beside Reuben’s border, Judah will have one portion extending from east to west.” 8 “Beside Judah’s border, the firstfruits portion set apart will be 25,000 wide and as long as one tribal portion from east to west. The sanctuary will stand within it.” 9 “The firstfruits portion set apart for the Lord will measure 25,000 long by 25,000 wide.” 10 “Within it, the priests’ holy firstfruits portion will measure 25,000 on the north, 10,000 wide on the west, 10,000 wide on the east, and 25,000 on the south. The holy mountain will stand within it.” 11 “It will belong to the priests set apart from Zadok’s descendants, who kept charge of the temple and did not stray when the people of Israel and the Levites strayed.” 12 “They will receive this firstfruits portion from the land’s firstfruits. It will be most holy and will border the Levites’ land.” 13 “The Levites’ land beside the priests’ border will measure 25,000 long by 10,000 wide. The total length will be 25,000 and the width 20,000.” 14 “No part of it may be sold, measured out for sale, or transferred, because the land’s firstfruits are holy to the Lord.” 15 “The remaining strip, 5,000 wide beside the 25,000, will serve as a suburb for the city, providing homes and open space. The city will stand within it.” 16 “The city will measure 4,500 on each side—north, south, east, and west.” 17 “The city will have 250 of open space on each side—north, south, east, and west.” 18 “The remaining land beside the holy firstfruits will extend 10,000 east and 10,000 west. Its produce will provide bread for those who work for the city.” 19 “People from all Israel’s tribes who work for the city will cultivate it.” 20 “The whole firstfruits portion will be a square 25,000 by 25,000. Set apart the sanctuary’s firstfruits from the city’s possession.” 21 “The leader will receive the remaining land on both sides of the sanctuary’s firstfruits and the city’s possession. It will extend 25,000 eastward and 25,000 westward beside the leader’s portions. The holy firstfruits and the temple sanctuary will stand within it.” 22 “The Levites’ possession and the city’s possession will lie between the leaders’ lands. The leaders’ land will lie between Judah’s and Benjamin’s borders.” 23 “Of the remaining tribes, Benjamin will have one portion extending from east to west.” 24 “Beside Benjamin’s border, Simeon will have one portion extending from east to west.” 25 “Beside Simeon’s border, Issachar will have one portion extending from east to west.” 26 “Beside Issachar’s border, Zebulun will have one portion extending from east to west.” 27 “Beside Zebulun’s border, Gad will have one portion extending from east to west.” 28 “Gad’s southwestern border will run from Teman and the water of Marimoth Kadesh to the Great Sea.” 29 “This is the land you will distribute by lot to Israel’s tribes, and these will be their portions, says the Lord God.” 30 “The city’s north side will measure 4,500.” 31 “The city’s gates will bear the names of Israel’s tribes. On the north will be three gates: the Gate of Reuben, the Gate of Judah, and the Gate of Levi.” 32 “The east side will measure 4,500 and have three gates: the Gate of Joseph, the Gate of Benjamin, and the Gate of Dan.” 33 “The south side will measure 4,500 and have three gates: the Gate of Simeon, the Gate of Issachar, and the Gate of Zebulun.” 34 “On the west side, measuring 4,500, there will be three gates: the Gate of Gad, the Gate of Asher, and the Gate of Naphtali.” 35 “The city’s perimeter will measure 18,000. From the day it is established, the city will bear its own name.”
