Ezekiel 45

The Holy Portion and the Leader’s Duties

1 “When you measure out the land as an inheritance, set apart firstfruits for the Lord: a holy area measuring 25,000 by 20,000. It will be holy throughout its whole boundary.” 2 “Within it there will be a square sanctuary measuring 500 by 500, with an open strip 87½ feet wide all around it.” 3 “From this measured area, mark off a section measuring 25,000 by 10,000. The most holy place will be within it.” 4 “This land portion will belong to the priests who serve in the holy place and draw near to serve the Lord. It will provide room for houses set apart for their holy service.” 5 “It will measure 25,000 long by 10,000 wide. The Levites who attend the temple will have cities there as their possession.” 6 “Assign the city a possession 5,000 wide by 25,000 long beside the holy firstfruits portion. It will belong to the whole house of Israel.” 7 “The leader will have land beside the holy firstfruits and the city’s possession, extending west from their western side and east from their eastern side. Its length from the western to eastern border will match one tribal portion.” 8 “This will be the leader’s possession in Israel. Israel’s leaders will no longer oppress my people, and the house of Israel will inherit the land by tribe.” 9 “This is what the Lord God says: Leaders of Israel, enough! Remove wrongdoing and misery, practice justice and righteousness, and stop oppressing my people, says the Lord God.” 10 “Use honest scales, an honest dry measure, and an honest small measure.” 11 “The dry measure and the small measure will be equal, each holding one-tenth of the larger standard measure. The larger measure will be the common standard.” 12 “Use honest weights: twenty small weights for the standard weight, with measures of about two ounces, four ounces, and one and a quarter pounds kept true.” 13 “This is the firstfruits portion you must set apart: about 3½ dry quarts of wheat from every six bushels, and about 3½ dry quarts of barley from every six bushels.” 14 “For oil, the required portion is one half-pint from every five pints.” 15 “Set apart one sheep from every ten in the flock from all Israel’s tribes. These are for sacrifices, whole burnt offerings, and sacrifices of well-being to make atonement for you, says the Lord God.” 16 “All the people will give these firstfruits to Israel’s leader.” 17 “The leader will be responsible for the whole burnt offerings, the sacrifices, and the drink offerings at the feasts, new moons, Sabbaths, and every feast of the house of Israel. He will provide the offerings for sin, the sacrifice, the whole burnt offerings, and the sacrifices of well-being to make atonement for the house of Israel.” 18 “This is what the Lord God says: On the first day of the first month, take an unblemished calf from the herd to make atonement for the holy place.” 19 “The priest will take blood from the atonement offering and put it on the temple thresholds, the temple’s four corners, the altar, and the thresholds of the inner court’s gate.” 20 “Do the same in the seventh month. On the first day of the month, take the required portion from each person and make atonement for the temple.” 21 “On the fourteenth day of the first month, celebrate the Passover feast. For seven days, eat bread made without yeast.” 22 “On that day the leader will provide a calf as an offering for sin for himself, the temple, and all the people of the land.” 23 “On each of the feast’s seven days, he will provide seven unblemished calves and seven unblemished rams as whole burnt offerings to the Lord. He will also provide one male goat each day as an offering for sin.” 24 “As a sacrifice, prepare a cake for the calf and a cake for the ram, with about one gallon of oil for each cake.” 25 “On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, you will provide the same sacrifices for each of the feast’s seven days: offerings for sin, whole burnt offerings, grain offerings, and oil.”
