Ezekiel 41
The New Temple: Inner Rooms
1 He brought me into the temple and measured its porch. It was 10½ feet wide on each side. 2 The gateway was 17½ feet wide, with side walls 8¾ feet wide on each side. He measured the room: it was 70 feet long and 35 feet wide. 3 He entered the inner court and measured the doorway. Its post was 3½ feet wide, its entrance 10½ feet wide, and its side walls 12¼ feet wide on each side. 4 He measured the room in front of the temple: it was 70 feet long and 35 feet wide. He said, “This is the most holy place.” 5 He measured the temple wall. It was 10½ feet thick, and each side room was 7 feet wide all around. 6 There were side rooms, one against another, thirty-three of them, twice over. Supports for them were built into the temple wall so they would not touch the temple’s own walls. 7 The upper side rooms grew wider as the wall narrowed around the temple. Stairs rose from the lower rooms through the middle level to the third story. 8 The raised base surrounding the temple was one 10½-foot measuring rod high at each interval between the side rooms. 9 The outer wall of each side room was 8¾ feet thick. Open spaces lay between the temple’s side rooms 10 and the other rooms. These spaces surrounding the temple were 35 feet wide. 11 The side rooms opened onto the remaining space, with one door facing north and one facing south. The open space all around was 8¾ feet wide. 12 The partition facing the remaining space to the west was about 123 feet wide. Its wall was 8¾ feet thick all around, and it was about 158 feet long. 13 He measured the front of the temple and the remaining spaces and partitions. Each length was 175 feet. 14 The temple’s front and the remaining spaces before it were 175 feet wide. 15 He measured the partition in front of the space behind the temple. The spaces on either side were 175 feet long. The temple, its corners, and the outer porch were paneled. 16 The three stories had latticed windows that provided light. The temple and adjoining areas were paneled all around, from the floor up to the windows. Each window’s shutters folded back in three sections. 17 From near the inner room to the outer, the whole wall all around, inside and outside, 18 was carved with cherubim and palm trees, with a palm tree between each pair of cherubim. Every cherub had two faces. 19 A human face turned toward the palm tree on one side, and a lion’s face toward the palm tree on the other. These carvings covered the whole temple. 20 Cherubim and palm trees were carved from the floor to the ceiling. 21 The holy place and the temple had four-sided entrances. In front of the holy place stood a structure that looked like this: 22 a wooden altar 5¼ feet high, 3½ feet long, and 3½ feet wide. Its horns, base, and sides were wood. The man told me, “This is the table that stands before the Lord.” 23 The temple and the holy place each had two doors. 24 Each door had two folding leaves, two for one door and two for the other. 25 Cherubim and palm trees like the carvings of the holy place decorated the temple doors. Thick planks stood outside in front of the porch. 26 There were recessed windows. He measured across the porch to its roof, and the temple’s sides were closely paneled.
