Ezekiel 39
The Defeat of Gog
1 “Son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: Look, I am against you, Gog, ruler of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal.’” 2 “I will assemble and guide you, bring you from the far north, and lead you onto Israel’s mountains.” 3 “I will knock the bow from your left hand and the arrows from your right, and I will cast you down.” 4 “On Israel’s mountains you will fall — you, all your forces, and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of bird and all the field’s wild animals.” 5 “You will fall in the open field, because I have spoken, says the Lord.” 6 “I will send a fire on Gog, and the islands will be inhabited in peace. They will know that I am the Lord.” 7 “My holy name will be known among my people Israel. My holy name will no longer be treated as common. The nations will know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.” 8 “Look, it has come, and you will know that it will happen, says the Lord God. This is the day I spoke about.” 9 “Israel’s city residents will come out and use the weapons as firewood: shields, spears, bows, arrows, clubs, and lances. They will keep fires burning with them for seven years.” 10 “They will not gather wood from the field or cut it from the forests, because they will burn the weapons. They will plunder those who plundered them and take spoils from those who took theirs, says the Lord.” 11 “On that day I will give Gog a renowned burial place in Israel, the burial place of the invaders, beside the sea. They will build around the valley’s outlet and bury Gog and his whole multitude there. It will be called Gog’s Burial Place.” 12 “The house of Israel will spend seven months burying them to make the land clean.” 13 “All the people of the land will bury them, and their work will bring them renown on the day I am glorified, says the Lord.” 14 “They will appoint people to pass continually through the land and bury those left on its surface. After seven months they will search for any who remain.” 15 “Anyone passing through the land who sees a human bone will set a marker beside it until the buriers place it in the valley at Gog’s Burial Place.” 16 “The city’s name will be Burial Place. In this way the land will be made clean.” 17 “Son of man, tell every winged bird and all the field’s wild animals, ‘This is what the Lord says: Gather and come from every side to the great sacrifice I prepared for you on Israel’s mountains. You will eat flesh and drink blood.’” 18 “‘You will eat the flesh of giants and drink the blood of earth’s rulers—rams, calves, and goats, all of them fattened calves.’” 19 “‘You will eat fat until you are full and drink blood until you are drunk from the sacrifice I prepared for you.’” 20 “‘At my table you will be filled with horse and rider, giant and every warrior, says the Lord.’” 21 “‘I will establish my glory among you. All the nations will see the judgment I executed and the hand I brought against them.’” 22 “‘From that day onward, the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God.’” 23 “‘All nations will know that the house of Israel was taken captive because of its sins. They rebelled against me, so I turned my face away, handed them over to their enemies, and they all fell by the sword.’” 24 “‘I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and their lawless acts, and I turned my face away from them.’” 25 “‘Therefore, this is what the Lord God says: Now I will restore Jacob’s exiles, have mercy on the house of Israel, and be jealous for my holy name.’” 26 “‘They will bear the disgrace and the wrong they committed while living on their land in peace with no one to terrify them.’” 27 “‘When I bring them back from the nations and gather them from their countries, I will be made holy among them before the nations.’” 28 “‘They will know that I am the Lord their God when I appear to them among the nations.’” 29 “‘I will no longer turn my face from them, because I have poured out my wrath on the house of Israel, says the Lord God.’”
