Ezekiel 32

Laments over Pharaoh and Egypt

In the eleventh year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me.
“Son of man, raise a lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and tell him: You became like a lion among the nations and like a serpent in the sea. You surged through your rivers, disturbed the water with your feet, and trampled your rivers.”
“This is what the Lord says: I will cast the nets of many nations over you and bring you up with my hook.”
“I will spread you over the ground so the fields are covered with you. I will make all the sky’s birds settle on you and fill all the earth’s wild animals with you.”
“I will cast your flesh on the mountains and saturate them with your blood.”
“The land will be drenched with your dung because of your multitude on the mountains, and I will fill the valleys with you.”
“When you are extinguished, I will veil the heavens and darken their stars. I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light.”
“I will darken every light in the sky over you and bring darkness on the earth, says the Lord God.”
“I will provoke many peoples’ hearts when I lead you captive among the nations into a land you have not known.”
“Many nations will mourn over you. Their kings will be completely astonished when my sword flashes before their faces and they await their own fall from the day you fall.”
“This is what the Lord says: The sword of Babylon’s king will come against you.”
“I will bring down your strength with the swords of giants, all of them violent men from the nations. They will destroy Egypt’s pride and crush all her strength.”
“I will destroy all her cattle beside the abundant water. No human foot will trouble it again, and no cattle’s hoof will trample it.”
“Then their waters will rest, and their rivers will flow like oil, says the Lord,”
“when I give Egypt over to destruction, devastate the land and everything in it, and scatter all its residents. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
“This is a lament, and you will sing it. The daughters of the nations will sing it for Egypt and mourn over all her strength, says the Lord God.”
In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the first month, the Lord’s word came to me.
“Son of man, lament over Egypt’s strength, for the nations will bring her daughters down dead into the earth’s depths with those who descend to the pit.”
“They will fall with him among those killed by the sword, and all his strength will lie down with him.”
“The giants will say to you, ‘Take your place in the pit’s depths. Whom do you surpass? Go down and lie with the uncircumcised among those killed by the sword.’”
“Assyria and all his company are there. All those killed among them lie there. Their graves are in the pit’s depths, and his company lies around his tomb — all of them killed, fallen by the sword,”
“those who spread their terror in the land of the living.”
“Elam and all his force are there around his tomb. They all fell by the sword. These uncircumcised people descended into the earth’s depths after spreading terror in the land of the living, and they received their punishment with those who descend to the pit.”
“They lie among those killed.”
“Meshech, Tubal, and all their strength lie there around the tomb. All their people were killed. Those uncircumcised people died by the sword after spreading terror in the land of the living.”
“They lie with the ancient fallen giants who descended to Hades with their weapons of war. Their swords were placed beneath their heads, but their lawless deeds remained on their bones because they terrified giants in the land of the living.”
“You will lie among the uncircumcised with those killed by the sword.”
“Assyria’s rulers lie there. They surrendered their strength to the sword’s wound and lie among those killed, with those who descend to the pit.”
“The northern rulers and all Assyria’s captains are there. They went down slain and lie uncircumcised among those killed by the sword. Their terror and their strength are with them, and they received their punishment with those who descend to the pit.”
“King Pharaoh will see them and be comforted over all their forces, says the Lord God.”
“I caused his terror in the land of the living, yet Pharaoh and his whole multitude will lie among the uncircumcised with those killed by the sword, says the Lord God.”
