Ezekiel 26
Against Tyre
In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me.
“Son of man, Tyre said about Jerusalem, ‘Good! She has been crushed. The nations have perished. She has turned to me, and the city that was full has been laid waste.’”
“Therefore, this is what the Lord says: Look, I am against you, Tyre. I will bring many nations against you as the sea raises its waves.”
“They will tear down Tyre’s walls and towers. I will scrape away her dust and make her a bare rock.”
“She will become a place for spreading nets in the sea, because I have spoken, says the Lord. She will become plunder for the nations.”
“Her daughters in the countryside will be killed by the sword. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
“This is what the Lord says: Look, I will bring Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon against you, Tyre. He will come from the north, a king of kings, with horses, chariots, cavalry, and a large force drawn from many nations.”
“He will kill your daughters in the countryside with the sword. He will set a watch against you, build forts around you, raise an embankment against you, prepare siege works, and array his spears against you.”
“He will tear down your walls and towers with his swords.”
“The dust from his many horses will cover you. Your walls will shake at the sound of his cavalry and chariot wheels when he enters your gates like someone entering a city from the plain.”
“His horses’ hooves will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword and bring the support of your strength to the ground.”
“He will seize your power and plunder your property. He will tear down your walls and pleasant houses, then throw your stones, timber, and dust into the sea.”
“He will silence your many musicians, and the sound of your harps will no longer be heard.”
“I will make you a bare rock, a place where people spread nets. You will never be rebuilt, because I have spoken, says the Lord.”
“This is what the Lord God says to Tyre: Will the islands not shake at the sound of your fall, while the wounded groan and the sword is drawn among you?”
“All the rulers of the seafaring nations will come down from their thrones, remove their turbans from their heads, and take off their embroidered clothing. Overwhelmed with horror, they will sit on the ground, fear their own destruction, and groan over you.”
“They will raise a lament for you and say, ‘How you have been destroyed from the sea, renowned city, who brought terror on all her residents.’”
“The islands will be terrified on the day of your fall.”
“This is what the Lord God says: When I make you a desolate city, like cities that are no longer inhabited, I will bring the deep over you, and its great waters will cover you.”
“I will bring you down with those who descend to the pit, to the people of ancient times. I will make you live in the earth’s depths, in an everlasting ruin, with those who descend to the pit. You will remain uninhabited and will not stand in the land of life.”
“I will make you a ruin. You will no longer exist, says the Lord God.”
