Ezekiel 10
The Glory Moves from the Temple
1 Then I looked. Above the expanse over the cherubim’s heads, something like a sapphire stone appeared, shaped like a throne. 2 He told the man clothed in the long robe, “Go between the wheels beneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with fiery coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city.” The man went in while I watched. 3 The cherubim stood on the right side of the temple as the man entered, and the cloud filled the inner court. 4 The Lord’s glory moved from the cherubim to the temple porch. The cloud filled the temple, and the court was filled with the brightness of the Lord’s glory. 5 The sound of the cherubim’s wings could be heard as far as the outer court, like Almighty God’s voice when he speaks. 6 When he commanded the man clothed in the holy robe, “Take fire from among the wheels and the cherubim,” the man entered and stood beside the wheels. 7 One cherub reached into the fire among the cherubim, took some of it, and put it into the hands of the man clothed in the holy robe. The man took it and went out. 8 Beneath the cherubim’s wings I saw something resembling human hands. 9 I looked and saw four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub. The wheels looked like carbuncle stone. 10 All four wheels had the same appearance, like a wheel within a wheel. 11 When they moved, they could go in any of the four directions without turning. They went wherever the leading head faced without turning as they moved. 12 Their backs, hands, wings, and all four wheels were covered with eyes all around. 13 These wheels were called Gelgel in my hearing. 15 Then the cherubim rose. They were the same living creatures I had seen by the Chebar River. 16 When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them. When the cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the ground, the wheels stayed beside them. 17 When the cherubim stood, the wheels stood. When they rose, the wheels rose with them because the spirit of life was in them. 18 Then the Lord’s glory left the temple and rose above the cherubim. 19 The cherubim lifted their wings and rose from the ground while I watched. As they left, the wheels stayed beside them. They stopped at the entrance of the Lord’s temple’s front gate with the glory of the God of Israel above them. 20 These were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the Chebar River, and I knew that they were cherubim. 21 Each had four faces and eight wings, with the likeness of human hands beneath their wings. 22 Their faces were the same ones I had seen beneath the glory of the God of Israel by the Chebar River. Each went straight ahead.
