Isaiah
Isaiah 60
Zion’s Light
Shine, shine, Jerusalem, because your light has come and the Lord’s glory has risen over you.
Look, darkness and gloom will cover the earth and its nations, but the Lord will appear over you and his glory will be seen over you.
Kings will walk by your light, and nations by your brightness.
Lift your eyes all around and look. Your children have gathered; all your sons came from far away, and your daughters will be carried on shoulders.
Then you will see and be in awe, and your heart will be amazed, because the sea’s wealth will pass over to you, along with the wealth of nations and peoples. Herds of camels will come to you,
and camels from Midian and Gaepha will cover you. Everyone from Sheba will come carrying gold and frankincense, and they will announce the good news of the Lord’s rescue.
All Kedar’s flocks will be gathered to you, and Nebaioth’s rams will come to you. Acceptable offerings will be brought up on my altar, and my house of prayer will receive glory.
Who are these who fly like clouds, like doves with their young?
The islands waited for me, with the ships of Tarshish in front, to bring your children from far away with their silver and gold for the sake of the Lord’s holy name, because the Holy One of Israel is glorious.
Foreigners will build your walls, and their kings will serve you. I struck you because of my wrath, but I loved you because of mercy.
Your gates will always remain open; they will be shut neither day nor night, so the power of nations and their captive kings may be brought to you.
The nations and kings that refuse to serve you will perish, and those nations will become completely desolate.
Lebanon’s glory will come to you—the cypress, pine, and cedar together—to give glory to my holy place.
The children of those who afflicted and provoked you will come to you in fear. You will be called the City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
Because you became desolate and hated, with no one to help, I will make you an everlasting gladness, a joy through many generations.
You will drink the milk of nations and consume the wealth of kings. Then you will know that I am the Lord who saves you and pulls you free, the God of Israel.
I will bring you gold instead of bronze, silver instead of iron, bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stones. I will make your rulers peaceful and your overseers righteous.
Wrongdoing will no longer be heard in your land, nor destruction and misery within your borders. Your walls will be called Rescue and your gates Carved Work.
The sun will no longer be your daylight, and the moon’s rising will not light your night. The Lord will be your everlasting light, and God will be your glory.
The sun will no longer set, and the moon will not be eclipsed. The Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning will end.
All your people will be righteous and inherit the land forever. They will preserve God’s planting, the work of his hands, for glory.
The few will become thousands, and the smallest a great nation. I, the Lord, will gather them at the right time.
