Genesis 10

1 These are the generations of the sons of Noah — Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.

2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Elishah, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. [a] 3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim, and the Rodanim. [b] 5 From these the islands of the nations were divided in their lands, each according to its tongue, by their tribes and their nations.

6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. 7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

8 Cush fathered Nimrod, who was the first to be a giant on the earth. 9 He was a giant hunter before the Lord God; that is why people say, “Like Nimrod, a giant hunter before the Lord.” [c] 10 The beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. 11 From that land Asshur went out and built Nineveh, the city of Rehoboth, and Calah, 12 and Dasem, between Nineveh and Calah — that is the great city. [d]

13 Mizraim fathered the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim, 14 the Pathrusim, and the Casluhim — from whom the Philistines came — and the Caphtorim.

15 Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, and the Hittites, 16 the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, 17 the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, 18 the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. After this the tribes of the Canaanites scattered. 19 The territory of the Canaanites ran from Sidon all the way to Gerar and Gaza, and on toward Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These were the sons of Ham, in their tribes and their tongues, in their countries and their nations.

21 Children were born to Shem as well — the father of all the sons of Eber, and the brother of Japheth the elder. 22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, Aram, and Cainan. [e] 23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. [f] 24 Arphaxad fathered Cainan, and Cainan fathered Shelah. And Shelah fathered Eber. [g] 25 Two sons were born to Eber. One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided; his brother's name was Joktan.

26 Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28 Abimael, Sheba, [h] 29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan. 30 Their settlements stretched from Mesha all the way to Sephar, a mountain of the east.

31 These were the sons of Shem, in their tribes and their tongues, in their countries and their nations. 32 These are the tribes of the sons of Noah, by their generations and their nations. From them the islands of the nations were scattered over the earth after the flood.
